What Is This Place?

The Kuleshov Effect is the personal film blog of Andrew Johnson. Andrew has degrees in Film, Sociology and Journalism from North Carolina State University. He has also hosted a weekly film podcast for around 3 years. He feels this makes what he has to say somewhat (read: probably very slightly) more legitimate and important than that of some average blogger. He tells people his favorite film is Magnolia, though it's hard for him to pick just one. He's also very fond of Fight Club, The Fountain, and of course, Star Wars. He can appreciate big blockbusters like Lord of the Rings, but since he's a pretentious artsy-fartsy critic, he also has a special place in his heart reserved for low-budget indie and foreign films (eg. Brick and Oldboy).
He launched The Kuleshov Effect on January 1, 2010. It is meant to be a place where he can rant, ramble and rave about current issues in film and culture, and hopefully promote quality discussion. After all, stories make the world go 'round, and as Ursula LeGuin put it: "In the tale, in the telling, we are all one blood. Take the tale in your teeth, then, and bite till the blood runs, hoping it’s not poison; and we will all come to the end together, and even to the beginning: living, as we do, in the middle."
